Message from the Superintendent: COVID Update

Dear Maple Heights City Schools Families,

I want to thank our parents for ensuring that our students arrive wearing masks and our staff for continuing to model consistent mask usage for our students. In the first three weeks of school, our community has seen a low number of COVID-19 cases. The persistence of our school community to our safety guidelines is one reason we can keep our numbers down; thank you. Based on parent feedback, starting Tuesday, September 7, 2021, we will send out a daily COVID-19 update to the email entered into FINAL FORMS.

Our safety precautions remain the same. Masks are required for all students and staff inside all of our buildings. Students will also be required to wear masks on buses.  We will not require masks in outdoor facilities on school/district property.

Additional safety supports:

  • Visitor access to our buildings will be extremely limited

  • Each of our school buildings has air cleaning systems

  • We have established and will maintain a thorough cleaning and disinfecting routine in all school facilities

  • Current guidance makes no recommendation of distancing for masked individuals or vaccinated individuals. The current recommendation for non-vaccinated persons without masks is 3-foot spacing.  Our schools will exceed these recommendations by maintaining a 3 foot spacing between all masked persons whenever practical.

  • When implementing “mask breaks,” we ask staff to extend themselves and students to at least the recommended 3-foot spacing (6 feet when practical)

  • We are strongly encouraging all individuals who are eligible to be vaccinated to do so. We will continue to work with our partners to create opportunities for this to occur.

Additional building/site-specific details will be provided by building principals.  We will continue to monitor health data and guidance on an ongoing basis, and we will make modifications to our plans when needed.

On September 3, 2021, an all-call was made to parents to remind them that our COVID-19 data continues to be updated daily and made available to our families and community stakeholders to review on our website daily.  The information is available under the “For Families” tab on the home page under the “COVID-19 Information” tab.  There you can see a daily count of students and staff members who tested positive for COVID-19 and are quarantining.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact our Maple Heights City Schools Administrative Offices/Board of Education at (216) 587-6100.
