MHCS 1:1 Technology Initiative

The Maple Heights City Schools are proud and happy to roll out our 1:1 initiative providing devices to grades 2-12. We have taken our time to get to this point. We wanted to ensure that we had a well-thought-out distribution process and some unified ways for our staff to incorporate the technology into our student’s everyday learning. 

We will deploy 1:1 devices to students beginning on September 27, 2021. Students will bring their charged devices to school daily. These dates and times are subject to change, so we will work closely with our building administrators to communicate with parents.

The tentative schedules are as follows:

High School                    September 27th – 29th 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.  Cafeteria

Milkovich                         October 4th – 6th            5 p.m. – 7 p.m.  Cafeteria

Obama                             October 11th – 12th       5 p.m. – 7 p.m.  Gymnasium

JFK                                  October 18th – 19th       5 p.m. – 7 p.m.  Gymnasium

Teachers and administrators worked together to commit to the following.  Beginning with the second quarter, October 18, 2021, and as a regular part of intentional lesson design, teachers* will incorporate technology daily in engaging, meaningful ways. We believe that students should have a purposeful reason to commit to bringing their devices daily. To this end, daily lessons will include one or more of but not be limited to the following:

●   Exit slips                                                              

●   Video clips with questions sets

●   Text annotation

●   Digital texts

●   Interventions (such as I-Ready, Khan Academy, MobyMax)

●   Formative assessments

●   Google Slides

●   Research

●   Lab simulations

●   Virtual Labs

●   Interactive slides/notebooks

●   Project-based Learning

●   Collaborative writing across the curriculum

●   Read aloud

●   Links to supportive resources such as NewsEla

●   Jamboard, Padlet

●   Bellwork, entrance slip, bellringer, warm up

●   Quick Reads/Quick Writes

●   Summative assessments

●   Desmos

●   Virtual manipulatives

●   News Articles

●   Daily Protocols in content areas such as Daily Math Protocol, Daily Literacy Review

*Teacher-based teams, which include grade-level colleagues and subject area teachers, should work together as much as possible to ensure the consistency of high-quality instructional practices and meaningful learning experiences for all students.
