On Monday, May 8th, at the MHCS Board meeting, the board of education reviewed design plans for a “Student Wellness Center.” The proposed wellness center would be available to students during the school day and outside of school hours, giving our students across the district positive activities to be involved in outside of school. The proposed wellness center would include both health and wellness stations (stationary bikes, ellipticals, weights, walking/running areas, etc.) and places for tabletop wellness activities (ping pong, pool, air hockey, etc.).
No taxpayer dollars would be spent on the construction of this area- the estimated $3.4 million dollar project would be funded by Federal ESSER money. Local dollars would likely be needed to cover the initial cost of some equipment and the cost of staffing the facility.
Below is a design of the proposed space that would involve renovating the currently unused natatorium area of the Maple Heights Athletic Center. The board is asking for all of our community to take a few moments after reviewing this information and answer the questions in the survey below. Please provide your input by Thursday, May 18th!
