Maple Heights High School students and staff members now have a place outside where they can learn, eat, and enjoy some sunshine and fresh air, courtesy of HAZA Foods, owner of the Wendy’s Restaurant on Warrensville Center Road in Maple Heights. Eddie Brenot, Director of Operations for HAZA Foods of Cleveland, worked with high school staff to give students and staff members an outdoor area they can enjoy during Maple’s beautiful Springs, Summers and Falls. Maple Heights is close to Brenot’s heart. His grandmother lived here when he was a child, and he can remember playing with friends across from the old Dunham School. With a $5,000 donation from Brenot and HAZA Foods, Maple Heights High School purchased picnic tables, maroon umbrellas, umbrellas bases, Adirondack chairs and side tables. Once they were purchased, many Maple staff members and students played a role in making the new courtyard happen. The custodial staff cleaned up the grounds after a messy winter. Director of Buildings and Grounds Bennie Kelly had the courtyard power washed and sealed. Home Improvement instructor Buddy Bell and his students assembled the picnic tables. Finally, Day Engineer Patrick McManus, custodians Big Mike, Linda and Brenda, building principal Dr. Perkins and a few curious students at lunch helped assemble Adirondack chairs, side tables, a deck box and umbrella bases. What a great example this is of our schools and our community working together in the best interests of Maple students. Thanks so much to Eddie Brenot, HAZA Foods, and all Maple students and staff who worked together to make this project happen.
