Morning lawn with leaves

This past weekend, we moved our clocks back an hour. As the days stay darker and our students travel to and from school, we would like to share some safety tips with our community to help the journey be safer.  By being mindful of these safety tips and watching out for one another, we can create a safer environment for everyone in our Mustang community.

We encourage you to consider the following safety tips:

1. Be aware of your surroundings: Knowing where and who is around you can help you find a way out of a potentially harmful situation.

2. Avoid isolated areas: It's more challenging to get help if no one is nearby. Try to stay in well-populated and well-lit areas whenever possible.

3. Walk with purpose: Even if you're unsure of your destination, maintain an appearance of confidence and purpose.

4. Trust your instincts: If a situation or location feels unsafe or uncomfortable, trust your gut feelings. It's better to err on the side of caution and remove yourself from potentially risky environments.

5. Minimize vulnerability: Avoid overloading yourself with bags or packages, as this can make you appear more vulnerable. Your cell phone should be charged and with you.

6. Avoid isolation with unfamiliar individuals: Do not allow yourself to be alone with someone you don't trust or someone you don't know well.

7. Stay alert: When walking alone, avoid using music headphones in both ears. Being fully aware of your surroundings is important for your safety.

Remember, safety is a shared responsibility. By being mindful of these safety tips and watching out for one another, we can create a safer environment for everyone in our Mustang community.

Stay safe and take care.
