Special Education Preschool
The Maple Heights Special Education Preschool serves children with disabilities from age 3 to 5. The program has a 5 Star Step Up to Quality Rating from the Ohio Department of Education.
The District values inclusion as the optimal method of teaching children with disabilities. Typically developing children are also enrolled in the preschool program to ensure strong and appropriate peer modeling. Peer models are children who are 3-5 years old who demonstrate strengths in areas of socialization, communication, cognition, and behavior. Peers participate in a screening process to become eligible as a peer model. Students with and without disabilities benefit from this philosophy. The classes provide rich, language-based curriculum with a multi-sensory, developmental approach to teaching. There is a strong commitment to helping all children develop self-respect, positive peer relationships, self-control, and friendships based on mutual respect.
The Special Education Preschool program operates at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. Hours are Monday – Thursday from 9:15-11:45 (AM session) and 1:15-3:45 (PM session) during the regular school year.
If you have concerns about your child’s language skills, cognitive development, motor skills or behavior, and they are at least 2 years old, please contact Special Pupil Services at 216-587-6100 x3600 for more information.
