Special Education Preschool

The Maple Heights Special Education Preschool serves children with disabilities from ages 3 to 5. The program has a Gold Rating from the Ohio Department of Education.

The District values inclusion as the optimal method of teaching children with disabilities. Developing children are typically enrolled in the preschool program to ensure strong and appropriate peer modeling. Peer models are children 3-5 years old who demonstrate strengths in socialization, communication, cognition, and behavior. Peers participate in a screening process to become eligible as a peer model. Students with and without disabilities benefit from this philosophy. The classes provide a rich, language-based curriculum with a multi-sensory, developmental approach to teaching. There is a strong commitment to helping all children develop self-respect, positive peer relationships, self-control, and friendships based on mutual respect.

The Special Education Preschool program operates at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. Hours are Monday – Thursday, full-day sessions during the regular school year.

If you have concerns about your child’s language skills, cognitive development, motor skills or behavior, and they are at least 2 years old, please contact Special Pupil Services at 216-587-6100 x3600 for more information.
