At the April 4 Board meeting, Todd Associates/Alera Group Company, which provides the District with insurance coverage, presented Maple Heights High School teacher Mr. Corywn Collier with the Crystal Starfish Award for making a difference.
Todd Associates/Alera Group Company created the Crystal Starfish Award to thank and honor someone for “Making a Difference.” The story of the Crystal Starfish is: An old man walked up a shore littered with thousands of starfish, beached and dying after a storm. A young man was picking them up and flinging them back into the ocean. “Why do you bother?” the old man asked. “You’re not saving enough to make a difference.” The young man picked up another starfish and sent it spinning back into the water. “I made a difference to that one,” he said. Each one of us has the ability to make a difference each and every day.
Todd Associates/Alera Group Company account executives Ned Hyland, Steve Copley, and Jim Presot presented the award to Mr. Collier. When they read about Mr. Collier’s story in Men’s Health magazine, they knew they wanted to honor him in some way for the difference he has had and will continue to make in the lives of so many students at Maple Heights High School and in the community. “What he does both in the classroom and as a coach is making a difference in the lives of so many,” said Presot.
In addition to presenting Mr. Collier with the award, they honored him with two $500 scholarships he will award to a graduating male and female student at the upcoming Senior Scholarship Night.
