Dr. Charlie Keenan

Dr. Charlie Keenan, superintendent of the Maple Heights City School District,  announced his retirement effective August 31, 2024.

Twenty years ago, he joined Maple Heights at a time of challenge. Following a lengthy strike, the district needed to rebuild trust and transparency. Together with the district administrators and staff, Keenan embarked on a journey to transform the culture of our schools.

With the unwavering support and collaborative efforts of the community, educators, staff, and board members – past and present – they achieved remarkable accomplishments during his tenure. Together, they saw the construction of new, modern school buildings for each grade level, creating a more inspiring learning environment for our students.

During his tenure, they launched the "Pathfinders" program, a beautiful testament to the power of our community. This initiative, which highlighted local heroes – students, educators, and community members – not only instilled a sense of pride and possibility in our scholars but also fostered their personal growth and development, a source of immense pride for the Maple Heights City Schools community.

The "Top 20 Dinner" became another cherished tradition, celebrating the academic excellence of our top scholars and the educators who played a pivotal role in their journeys.

These are just a few milestones that make Keenan incredibly proud of the work he accomplished with the district's leaders and staff. "It has been an honor to serve alongside such dedicated individuals, all committed to the success of our students," said Keenan.

"While I will miss the daily interactions and the shared experiences, I am confident that Maple Heights Schools are poised for continued growth and success. The strong foundation we've built, coupled with the leadership of the board and our phenomenal educators, ensures a bright future for our district," said Keenan, "I will always cherish my time as part of the Maple Heights family. I look forward to staying connected and supporting your ongoing efforts to provide every student with an exceptional education."
